Energy Incentives

U.S. Department of Energy Incentives

The Tax Incentives Assistance Project (TIAP) is a nonprofit organization providing a well organized source for both residential and commercial incentive news and information.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 created the Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings Deduction.  Businesses, including nonprofits, can get deductions for new or renovated buildings that save 50% or more of projected annual energy costs for heating, cooling, and lighting compared to model national standards, and partial deductions for efficiency improvements to individual lighting, HVAC and water heating, or envelope systems.

More details specific to lighting energy efficiency incentives can be found at

State, Local & Utility Incentives

DSIRE (Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency) is a comprehensive source of information on state, local, utility and federal incentives and policies that promote renewable energy and energy efficiency. Established in 1995 and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, DSIRE is an ongoing project of the N.C. Solar Center and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council.

The U.S. DOE also has a searchable State Incentives and Resource Database.

NEW FROM ACT!

Beginning September, 2010, ACT is offering a database of professional contractors and installers with expertise in obtaining incentive and rebate money from Federal, State and other sources.  Building owners and managers with viable energy efficiency projects can locate firms from the database to discuss how they may work cooperatively to offset program expenses with recovered incentives.

If you are an energy efficiency design or installation firm seeking to be included in the ACT database or an individual with experience and training in filing for incentive/rebate returns,  contact Bill Thompson (bthompson@act-solutions.com) for more information on how you can participate.
